My education has been rich in all the arts— visual arts, folk art, handcrafts, music, drama, and creative writing.  Throughout my years in Waldorf education, I wrote and drew my own textbooks by creating illustrations and descriptions of our lessons; these were called main lesson books or seminar books. This was intended to deepen our learning and create a more lasting connection with the material.

Though I do not consider myself a visual artist, this experience of the arts has shaped the visual nature of my creative writing. Below are some samples of the artwork I created in middle school and high school.

Colored pencil on paper, Cell Biology & Embryology Seminar, 10th grade. These illustrations are pages from seminar book for biology class. They illustrate several of the biological events of embryology. For high school seminars, students create seminar books which included illustrations and original pieces of writing based on our studies.
